  • Orca Whale Rescued From Chiloe Beach

    Thursday, September 10, 2009
CHILE - A killer whale that was washed to shore in Ancud, Chiloe (Region X) was successfully returned to the ocean on Tuesday by a team of volunteers made up of seven seaport personnel and one fisherman.

Ancud port authorities received news that a whale had been spotted on shore from a call by the Marine Mammals Watch Network (RAMMC), a whale-monitoring organization, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The team waited hours for the high tide to make it easier for the motorboats to push the whale into deeper water. The team escorted the whale two miles away from shore and will keep a lookout throughout the next 24-hours to make sure the orca does not get washed up again.
