  • Whales Frolic Off Washington Coast

    Wednesday, September 5, 2007
SAN JUAN ISLANDS, WASHINGTON - Whale watchers in Washington State got a treat this week.

A new pod of transient Orcas was sighted frolicking in the Pacific Ocean near the San Juan Islands.

Whale watchers go to the San Juan Islands every year around this time to see the awesome sight of the area's full-time resident Orcas and this time they have not been disappointed.

The pod seems to consist of at least eight Orcas which are also known as killer whales. The new pod is a group of transient Orcas, which unlike their full-time resident counterparts, roam the seas and eat other mammals.

The resident Orcas live permanently in the waters near the San Juan Islands and eat only salmon and other fish.
