New Puget Sound Orca Is A Girl

FRIDAY HARBOR, WASHINGTON - This a bit more information about the baby orca spotted last week in a pod near San Juan Island:

It's a girl!

The Center for Whale Research says experts were able to determine the gender from photos that revealed markings on the underside of the belly.

The baby orca is part of the J-pod and is called J42.

The birth brought the population of southern resident whales to 87.
