  • Orcas Spotted In Waitemata Harbour

    Friday, November 24, 2006
NEW ZEALAND - A pod of Orca whales has been sighted near the proposed site for Auckland's waterfront stadium in the Waitemata Harbour.

Three were spotted early this afternoon off Bean Rock, just off Kelly Tarlton's, by Newstalk ZB listener Murray, who said it was an unbelievable sight.

He says there were around four big males, eight females and five or six calves.

Murray says he was going to go out on a jet ski - but there is no way he is getting into the water after seeing the whales.

They now seem to have gone back out to sea.
