  • Four Killer Whales Spotted Playing Off Oregon Coast

    Wednesday, May 17, 2006
FLORENCE, OREGON - Hot weather always brings extra visitors to the Oregon Coast. But Steve Saubert at Sea Lion Caves just north of Florence is excited about four killer whales who stopped by Tuesday.

Saubert says the four seemed more intent on playing with the 300-400 stellar sea lions sunning themselves -- but the sea lions would have no part of it.

He says people should keep an eye out when driving along the ocean. The killer whales, also known as orcas, are fairly easy to spot. He says they don't spout so much, but their black and white dorsal fins are pretty spectacular.

As for Saubert, Tuesday's sightings made his day.
