  • Springer's Move To BC Declared A Success

    Tuesday, August 30, 2005
HANSON ISLAND, BC - Springer, the killer whale moved from Puget Sound near Seattle and reunited with her family pod in BC waters, is thriving in Johnstone Strait on Vancouver Island, says a marine veterinarian involved in the move.

Pete Schroeder says the move was an unprecedented success. The five-year-old orca became a nuisance in early 2002, bumping into boats between Vashon Island and a Washington state ferry terminal.

She was alone after becoming separated from her family. US and Canadian officials worked together to capture and move Springer to Johnstone Strait where she joined a pod of orcas.
