  • Another Orca Dies In Captivity In Japan

    Friday, January 21, 2005
JAPAN – Goro died of acute pneumonia today at Nanki Shirahama Adventure World, Japan, after more than 19 years in captivity. He had some skin problems around his pectoral fins and his fluke, comparable to those Keiko had in Mexico, but those were unrelated to his sudden death. Goro was captured off Japan at about one year of age in October 1985, together with Nami-Chan, who's still surviving at the Taiji Whaling Museum. With Goro's death and the losses of both Kyu and Ran last summer, Nanki Shirahama Adventure World has lost it's last orca. Hopefully they do not intend to participate in any new captures from the wild.
