DFO Luna Update

GOLD RIVER, BC - Fisheries and Oceans Canada has called together the L98 Scientific Panel to review the status of L98 (Luna), discuss the joint DFO - Mowachaht/Muchalaht Stewardship plan, evaluate the behaviour and incidents that have occurred over the past few months and consider options for L98 in the coming months and beyond. The Mowachaht/Muchalaht will take part in the discussions as well.

In the coming weeks DFO will review the recommendations of the scientific panel, discussions and agreements with the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations, and reassess the risk to public safety to determine what our next steps will be.

Public safety and safety of the whale remains the immediate concern. We appeal to everyone to avoid interaction with the whale.
