GOLD RIVER - L98 has been quite active over the last week, and a number of interactions between L98 and people/vessels were reported. In the last week of February, L98’s interference with the Air Nootka float plane was causing concern, and a DFO Coast Guard vessel was called in to assess the situation and respond to concerns for public safety. The Coast Guard also visited the dock to ensure that the public were not interacting with Luna. Interactions have since diminished.
DFO would like to remind the public that their presence on the dock, and any interaction with the whale, is a hazard to boaters, the public, and to L98.
