  • Luna Seems To Have Survived The Winter Well

    Monday, March 8, 2004
GOLD RIVER - Recent reports indicate that Luna has grown visibly over the winter. He appears to be energetic and healthy. His left eye was closed for a period of time a few weeks ago, perhaps in response to an irritation, but it is open again now and looks normal.

As it is still winter, there are few boats on the water and Luna has largely avoided "trouble". His encounters with vessels may be becoming less intense than they were last year - if true, this would be good news but it is too early to be sure.

Perhaps as a substitute for other company, Luna has taken to playing with sea lions. Probably as a result of his encounters with the sea lions, Luna has some new nicks and scratches on his body, none of which look like serious injuries.

Altogether, Luna seems to have survived the winter well so far, though it is not yet over and there are anxious months ahead.
